The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday suspended social activist Yogendra Yadav for a month for visiting the house of a BJP worker who was killed in the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. Yadav has been a member of the core committee of the United Kisan Morcha. The Morcha is leading protests across the country against the Centre’s three new controversial agriculture laws. Recently Yogendra Yadav had gone to meet the family of deceased BJP worker Shubham Mishra.
A senior farmer leader said that a decision to this effect was taken in the general meeting of the United Kisan Morcha. The farmer leader said that in its meeting the SKM suspended Yogendra Yadav for a month as he had gone to meet the family of a BJP worker killed in Lakhimpur Kheri (incident) in Uttar Pradesh. He said that he (Yadav) cannot take part in the meetings of the United Kisan Morcha and other activities.

Yadav had participated in the general meeting of the United Kisan Morcha held on Thursday. According to sources, in the meeting, Yogendra Yadav expressed regret that he did not consult other leaders of the United Kisan Morcha before going to the house of the slain BJP worker in Lakhimpur Kheri. However, he did not apologize. Yadav said that he did nothing wrong by meeting the family of the deceased farmers as well as the bereaved family of the slain BJP worker. There should be no discrimination among the victims’ families.
Eight people were killed in the violence on October 3 in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Four of them were farmers who were allegedly crushed by a vehicle carrying BJP workers. Enraged by the incident, some people in the vehicles were beaten to death by the farmers. Two Bharatiya Janata Party workers and their driver were also killed in the incident.
In this case, a case has been registered against many people including Ashish, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra. The farmers claimed that one of the vehicles was carrying Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra. Ashish Mishra was arrested in this case on October 9. On October 3, there was a convoy of a total of three cars, including an SUV that crushed the farmers. The UP Police has made Ashish Mishra the main accused in this case.
