South Korea’s major electronic product maker Samsung has not applied for a production-based incentive scheme for manufacturing telecom equipment. Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson has applied through its vendor Jabil Circuits.
It is understood that the government has received 37 applications under the scheme. This includes Foxconn and its subsidiaries Rising Star, Flex, Sanmina SCI and Nokia, as well as domestic companies Dixon Technologies, HFCL and Coral Telecom. An official source told PTI, “Samsung has not applied for the scheme.” Comments were sent to Samsung in this regard, but there was no response from their side. According to the government, 14 companies including Dell, Lava, Dixon, Wistron and Foxconn have been approved under Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for information technology hardware.
