One Nation One Card Scheme
One nation-one card scheme will start from June 1
The scheme of One Nation-One Card will be fully implemented from June 1 for ration cards in 20 states. The benefit of this scheme will be that the ration card is made in any state, it can be used in other states to buy ration. This will greatly benefit the poor. Ration card holders will get five kg of rice at the rate of 3 rupees and wheat at the rate of 2 rupees. The card will be issued in two languages - local language and Hindi or English.
Ration will be given even if there is no card
The Finance Minister had said that those who do not have ration card or no card will also be given ration help. 8 crore migrant laborers will benefit from this. It will cost 3500 crores rupees. It will be made effective through state governments. This process will continue for the next two months.
This scheme was started last year
One Nation One Card Yojana started on August 9 last year. The first four states were Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. At that time the scheme was called Ration Card Portability. After this, the government was working on a plan to implement them in other states.
How will the new system work
POS machines will be installed at all Public Distribution System outlets to implement the scheme in the country. Under this scheme, beneficiaries of PDS will be identified on their Aadhaar card with Electronic Point of Sale (PoS). As soon as states report POS machines at all PDS shops, they will be included in the ‘one country, one ration card’ scheme.
This will reduce corruption
The beneficiary will no longer be obliged to take ration from any one PDS shop. This will reduce dependence on shop owners and reduce corruption. With this scheme, the government will facilitate full portability by creating central reserves for all ration cards and connecting them to Aadhaar.
The benefits of the scheme will not be available in these states
Some states of the country like West Bengal, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Chhattisgarh will not get the benefit of the scheme at present. According to sources in the Food Ministry, these states have been asked to complete the necessary steps to implement the scheme at the earliest. So that this scheme can be implemented in the whole country.
