Under the central government’s new scheme, more than 4 crore scheduled children will get benefit in the next five years.
Post Matric Scholarship Scheme: The Union Cabinet has approved the post metric scholarship scheme of 59 thousand crores on 23 December today. This will benefit more than 4 crore scheduled caste students in the next five years. Under this scheme, the central government will spend Rs 35,534 crore (about 60 per cent) and the remaining amount will be spent by the state governments. This information was given by Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot.
This decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Scheduled Cost (SC) students will get financial assistance to continue their post matriculation (after 11th) under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.
Will be encouraged by running a campaign
The focus of this scheme will be on getting the poorest children enrolled for studies, giving scholarships on time, comprehensive accountability, constant monitoring and complete transparency. According to the notification issued by the central government, after passing the 10th, more and more children of poor families will be campaigned for admission to the next class. According to an estimate, under the scheme in the next five years, about 1.36 crore students will be enrolled for studies after 10th standard, who are unable to continue further studies due to poverty.
The scholarship will come directly in the account through DBT mode
This scheme will be run through an online platform so that transparency is maintained. Apart from this, help can be provided to the students on time without any delay. It will be the responsibility of the states to certify eligibility, cast status, Aadhaar identification and upload bank account information on the online portal.
Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided to the children in DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode and financial assistance will be provided mainly through the use of Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. That is, Aadhaar will be linked to the bank account. From the financial year 2021-22, the Center will send 60 percent of its share directly to the children’s account through DBT mode on a fixed time schedule. However, before this, the state government will send its share to the account.
