Pensioners Alert: Necessary instructions have been issued for the pensioners who take OPD facility or medical allowance under the Central Government Health Scheme of the Central Government.
Pensioners Alert: Some pensioners or family pensioners live in an area that does not come under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Such pensioners have the option of taking Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) every month in lieu of OPD facility under this scheme. Pensioners get a once in a lifetime option to change the OPD facility, which is FMA or FMA.
However, today (March 24) the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare, which comes under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has issued a directive. The department has now issued instructions to decide the procedure and time-limit for changing choices by the pensioners/family pensioners for availing OPD facility or FMA under CGHS.

This is the process for CGHS card
According to these instructions, if a pensioner receiving FMA wants to take advantage of OPD facility under CGHS, he can apply for closure of FMA facility to the bank where his pension comes. After receiving the application, the bank will stop payment of FMA and issue a certificate regarding the same within three working days of receipt of the application.
Thereafter, the pensioner can apply to the concerned CGHS authorities for issuance of CGHS card on payment of necessary CGHS contributions. However, this payment is to be made only if it has not been done earlier. Will issue a provisional CGHS card within four working days after completion of all formalities which will be valid till issuance of regular CGHS card.

This is the process for FMA facility
If any pensioner who is availing CGHS/Medical facility for both IPD and OPD and now residing in non-CGHS area wants to avail FMA facility then he/she can apply to CGHS authorities for surrender of OPD facility. could. Within four working days of the application, the authorities will issue a certificate that the pensioner is not availing the OPD facility.
Thereafter, the pensioner will submit a copy of this surrender certificate along with the application for payment of FMA to the Head Office. Revised Pension Payment Authority will be issued within two months of the application. However, in such cases the payment of FMA will start from the date of issue of surrender certificate by the CGHS authorities.
