New Income Tax E-Filing Website: To file Income Tax Return (ITR), Amit (name changed) opened the e-filing website on 9 June 2021. While trying to type the URL, the address of the old Income Tax website is auto generated in the browser. Instead of redirecting to the new e-filing website, the homepage of the old website opened. However, on clicking “Login Here”, a message appeared on the screen that please visit the new e-filing portal ‘incometax.gov.in’.
So, he carefully typed the URL of the new e-filing website. Curious about the news website, he went to the home page to check out the new features. And watched a video about using the portal.
However, when they tried to log in for a while, the login page did not open. He was using his mobile’s WiFi hotspot, which has a quota of 1.5GB per day, to meet his work-for-home needs and access social media websites. Amit got a message that his high speed quota of 1.5GB data has been exhausted. This data was lost within minutes of opening the new e-filing website. Not only was he unable to log in and file his ITR, but it also affected his work from home.
Increasing the load on the website will increase the problems
CA Karan Batra, CEO and Founder of CharteredClub.com, said that taxpayers will not like it to go live such a heavy site in this peak season, which has a lot of bugs and mistakes. He further said that May to October is the peak season, when there is a lot of load on the Income Tax website and from November to April, there is less traffic on the Income Tax website. He then explained that many people want to file returns now because of these reasons- 1. To avoid interest on late payment of tax, 2. Some people want to take home loan, for which ITR is required. it occurs.
Regarding the timing of the website’s launch, Batra said that he feels that it has been updated at the wrong time. This is the peak season and many taxpayers will face difficulties. Had they done it at non-peak times, they could have easily done testing and released many tutorials. He further said that private income tax software has also stopped working as they will start the process of updating the software once the income tax website is fully updated.
Deposit Schemes: There is panic seeing the volatility of the market? These 12 ways of investing can give better returns
With the extension of the deadline for issuance of Form 16 by employers to 15 July 2021, return filing by salaried employees is yet to pick up pace. With this, most taxpayers submit their ITR just before the last date, so the maximum load on the e-filing website comes just before the last date of filing returns. Due to the load near the last date, the old website also got down, due to which the date had to be extended.
Therefore, if such condition of the new e-filing website is like this before the load, then near the last date of 30th September 2021, taxpayers may have to face a lot of difficulties.
