DA Hike Impact: Before Diwali, the central government has given a big gift to the central employees and pensioners. On Thursday, 21 October, the Central Government announced an increase in Dearness Allowance of Central employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners. The government has increased the DA and DR equal to 3 percent of the basic pay / pension. This decision will help 47.14 lakh employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners in rising inflation. In July this year, the government had decided to increase dearness allowance and relief by 11 per cent to 28 per cent. Now the government has increased it by three percent, that is, now the central employees and pensioners will get 31 percent of the basic pay as DA / DR.

Suppose the basic pay of a central worker is 40 thousand rupees monthly. According to the decision of the Central Government on Thursday, they will now get a DA of 31 percent of it i.e. Rs 12400 (31% of 40 thousand). If the government had not decided to increase it, then they would have got the rate of 28 per cent i.e. Rs 11200 as DA. This means that due to the increase in DA, the workers with a basic pay of Rs 40 thousand got the benefit of Rs 1200 (Rs 12400 – Rs 11200).

Last year there was no increase in DA and DR due to Corona
The Central Cabinet said in its statement that it has been approved to release additional installment of Dearness Allowance to Central employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners, which will be payable from July 1, 2021. According to the statement issued by the cabinet, this increase is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. This decision of the government will cost the exchequer Rs 9,488.70 crore annually. Last year due to Corona epidemic, the government did not increase DA and DR.
