Aurangabad: A memorial to Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray is being built at Priyadarshini Udyan in MGM area. The work of building a security wall around the monument has also been started. Ancient coins were found at the site on the evening of Monday (December 20), while digging for the wall. The coin was handed over to the Archaeological Department after the contractor informed the municipal authorities.
The Municipal Corporation is constructing Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial in Priyadarshini Park. Work is also underway to build a security wall around the memorial site. Excavation is being done to build the wall. During the digging of the wall behind the monument on Monday evening, the diggers found something in a cloth bag four to five feet high. He stopped digging, took out the bag and looked inside the bag and found coins in it. The laborers immediately informed the contractor Rohit Swamy. Swami immediately reached the place from where the excavation had started. He saw a bag full of coins and asked Municipal Corporation Ward Engineer G.V. White informed about it. White also reached the spot. He informed his superiors that he had found a bag full of ancient coins while working on the wall. After this, it was decided to hand over the coins to the Archaeological Department as per the instructions of the seniors. The bag full of coins will be handed over to the Archaeological Department late at night or tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
