Budget session Part- 2: The second phase of the budget session of Parliament started on Monday. About the budget session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed that the Rajya Sabha will run from 9 am to 2 pm and the proceedings of Lok Sabha will run from 4 to 10 pm. The session will conclude on 8 April. The first phase of the budget session of Parliament started on 29 January and ended on 28 February. In the first phase, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in the Parliament on 1 February.
This phase of the budget session is very important, because during this session which runs till 8 April, assembly elections are also being held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. Assembly elections in these states are going to be held in March-April. It is known that during the first phase of the budget session, the Lok Sabha saw 99.5 percent productivity.
Focus on getting the Finance Bill passed
In the second phase of the budget session, the government’s focus will be on the passage of the Finance Bill and several supplementary demands for grants for the financial year 2021-22. Apart from this, the government has also listed many of these bills to be passed in this session. These include the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill 2021, National Funding Infrastructure and Development Bank Bill, Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2021, Crypto Currency and Official Digital Currency Regulation Bill 2021.
Many MPs will not be present in the House!
The second phase of the budget session has started at a time when assembly elections are going to be held in Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry during the next two months. In such a situation, many senior leaders of the major regional parties of these states will not be able to attend the meeting of the House. Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded a postponement of the Parliament session. TMC spokesman and Rajya Sabha MP Deroch O. Brown has said in a letter to the Rajya Sabha chairman that his party’s MPs cannot attend the Parliament session due to the elections.
