Economic Survey 2020-21 Internet: Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) KV Subramanian on Friday launched the Economic Survey 2020-21, which was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the morning. CEA also launched the Economic Survey mobile app. Before the budget, the Economic Survey said on Friday that the penetration of internet and broadband in urban and rural areas has increased rapidly. And low cost of data will help in economical access at high speed.
Digital discrimination must end
The survey noted the main role of the telecom sector in implementing JAM-Trinity (Jan Dhan Aadhaar mobile) based social sector schemes and pro-development schemes of the government, stating that every Indian citizen should be able to solve digital discrimination. Efforts are being made by giving access to inclusive internet.
It said that the penetration of the internet and broadband has increased rapidly in urban and rural areas. According to the survey, the government has placed a strong emphasis on making broadband available to all, under its Digital India campaign. The telecom sector is being seen as a powerful weapon in development and poverty reduction around the world.
Data usage increased
Referring to the manifold growth in the use of wireless data in the Economic Survey, it has been said that the average monthly figure of wireless data consumption per subscriber has increased from 9.1 GB in March 2019 to 12.2 GB in June 2020. It has been said that due to the low price of data, people are increasingly getting affordable internet. Wireless data is priced at Rs 10.55 per GB in June 2020. The government has taken several steps to achieve the goals of the Digital India program.
It said that under the project, the network infrastructure is being installed in a broadband highway, which will provide affordable broadband service to citizens and institutions in rural areas without any discrimination.
