Budget 2022 Battery-Swapping Policy: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the Battery-Swapping Policy in the budget for the next financial year 2022-23. However, auto industry veterans believe that unless it gets strong support and subsidies from the government, this policy can prove to be effective only in a limited way. One reason for this is also that car companies do not share the technology of the battery.
PSU Banking Stocks: After the fall on the budget day, shares of public sector banks recovered today, three stocks near record high of 52-weeks
Special policy announced due to lack of space in cities
To promote electric vehicles in the country, a battery swap policy was announced in the budget of Rs 39.44 lakh crore. The Finance Minister said that to encourage the use of electric vehicles, it is necessary to set up charging stations on a large scale, but in view of the lack of space in the cities, a battery-swapping policy will be brought. He said that private companies need to adopt a sustainable business model for battery and energy service, which will improve the EV ecosystem in the country.
Missing Expectation from Budget: These expectations were not fulfilled by the budget, if these schemes of agriculture sector get less money, then the gold is shining.
These problems can come in the way
Arthur Wheaton, an expert in the auto industry and director of labor studies at Cornell University of Industrial and Labor Relations, says the idea of battery swapping is interesting but cannot be implemented optimally without government involvement. According to Wheaton, car companies do not share battery technology. Wheaton told all car companies the need to harmonize the design and technology of batteries. Apart from this, making battery packs is very expensive and there is also the problem of limited supply of lithium and cobalt, due to which it is not possible to implement the battery-swapping policy effectively on a large scale without strong government support and subsidies.
