It has been said in this letter that the website and the FAQ do not include many such important points, which were discussed in the meeting between the stakeholders and the government on June 15.
Answers to many questions in the FAQ
GJC Chairman Ashish Pethe said, “A very important point is the one time registration of bullion dealers and no renewal with BIS, which is not mentioned in the FAQ on the BIS website. Apart from this, hallmarking will be applicable only on the first point of sale, this notable thing is also missing from the FAQ.
Not to mention the use of your logo
“Exhibition for distribution, storage, transportation and sale of jewelery (under Section 15 of the BIS Act, 2016) has not yet been removed from the FAQs,” Pethe said. Pethe said that it was said that Hallmarking Unique Identity (HUID) would be put up for discussion and the final decision in this regard would be taken by the high level committee.
Earlier digitization did not involve jewelery maker
He has also claimed that BIS has already introduced six digit HUID in jewelery through AHC. The BIS FAQ states that the registered jeweler will have to upload the jewellery, its parts on the BIS portal and measure the same on the software before sending the goods for hallmarking. Pethe said while in the earlier discussion it was clarified that HUID and digitization would be limited to hallmarking centers only and no jewelery maker would be involved in it.
