The Oxford vaccine being produced in the country has proved to be up to 70 percent effective in the Kovyshield trial. This vaccine is being developed in association with AstraZeneca. There is an agreement with the Serum Institute of India for its manufacture in India. Adar Poonawala of Serum Institute has said that we have come very close to supplying this vaccine at low cost across the world. He says that 10 crore doses of this vaccine will be made available by January. With this, there are plans to make millions more doses available by the end of February.
Poonawala said that it will take about 2 to 3 months to get this vaccine available in India. But by January we will have at least 10 million doses available. At the same time, the government aims to provide 30 to 40 crore doses by July.
Moderna’s vaccine may come on the market by April. Earlier it was claimed to come in the market by December. Currently, up to 94.5 per cent has proved effective in trial. Moderna Inc has stated that it will charge 25 to 37 dollars per dose (around Rs 1,854 to Rs 2,744) from governments for its vaccine candidate. The amount of vaccines that governments order, the price will also be decided based on that. The company has said that its vaccine candidate is 94.5% effective in stopping COVID-19. This has been said on the basis of interim data from the last stage clinical trial.
