The government has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for taxpayers claiming GST refund. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes ie CBIC has made Aadhaar verification mandatory to prevent fake refund claims. Now GST refund will come only in the bank account, which should be linked with PAN. GST registration should also be done on this PAN.

In the notification issued by CBIC, it has been said that from January 1, 2022, businessmen who default in filing Summary Return or pay GST every month will not be allowed to file GSTR-1 sales return for the next month. This decision was taken in the meeting of GST Council of Lucknow on 17 September.
Aadhaar verification required to claim fake refund
AMRG & Associates Senior Partner Rajat Mohan said that to prevent tax evasion, the government has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for business owners, partners, karta, managing directors, whole time directors and authorized signatures. They will be able to get the refund of their canceled registration only after getting Aadhaar verification done. Even if the refund application is cancelled, Aadhaar verification is necessary to restore it.
EY’s tax partner Abhishek Jain said that the government’s objective of Aadhaar verification is to stop revenue leakage. If the taxpayer wants to claim refund, then he will have to get Aadhaar verification done. The purpose of making Aadhaar verification mandatory is to claim fake refunds. After the implementation of this rule, only verified taxpayers will be able to take refund.
