Samsung at the forefront of the US market
Samsung Electronics has been the largest smartphone vendor in Latin America in the second quarter, although its market share declined from a year ago and has grown now. According to market tracker Counterpoint Research, Samsung represented 37.3 percent of smartphone shipments in Latin America in the April-June period. However, its market share in the second quarter was less than 42.5 per cent a year ago.
Tina Lu, a principal analyst at Counterpoint Research, said Samsung was hit hardest by disruptions related to its Vietnam factory. There were also supply issues in Brazilian manufacturing. According to the Yonhap news agency report, the South Korean tech giant was the leading brand in major Latin American countries except Mexico and Peru, where the company was behind Motorola and Xiaomi, respectively.
