The authorities has deployed an indigenously developed Param Ananta supercomputer beneath National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) with 838 teraflops computing energy capability at IIT Gandhinagar, an official assertion mentioned on Monday. The excessive energy supercomputer can course of 838 lakh crore calculations per second.
“Param Ananta, a state-of the art Supercomputer at IIT Gandhinagar dedicated to the nation under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), a joint initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), was commissioned on May 30, 2022,” Ministry of Electronics and IT mentioned in an announcement.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between IIT Gandhinagar and the Centre for Development in Advanced Computing (C-DAC) on October 12, 2020 to ascertain this 838 TeraFlops Supercomputing Facility beneath NSM.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity), group coordinator and scientist ‘G’, Sunita Verma mentioned that 60 per cent of the Param Ananta capability shall be utilized by IIT Gandhinagar and the remaining shall be open to be used by close by tutorial institutes for numerous analysis functions.
The authorities has deployed 12 supercomputers earlier at numerous main tutorial institutes which embody IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune.
The prime supercomputer 210 AI PetaFlops Param Siddhi with a processing energy of 6.5 petaflops has been deployed at CDAC, Pune.
“Param Ananta supercomputing facility is established beneath Phase 2 of the NSM, whereby nearly all of the parts used to construct this method have been manufactured and assembled throughout the nation, together with an indigenous software program stack developed by C-DAC, in keeping with the Make in India initiative.
The Param Ananta Supercomputing Facility will be capable to help IIT Gandhinagar in pursuing analysis and growth actions in multidisciplinary domains of science and know-how on the Institute, together with, however not restricted to, synthetic intelligence (AI), machine studying (ML), and knowledge science, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), bio-engineering for genome sequencing and DNA research, computational biology and bioinformatics utilized in prediction and detection of gene networks. It can assist atomic and molecular sciences to understand the binding of medication to a specific protein.
“Multiple applications from various scientific domains such as Weather and Climate, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Molecular Dynamics, Material Sciences, Computational Fluid Dynamics etc have been installed on the system for the benefit of researchers. This high-end computing system will be a great value addition for the research community,” the assertion mentioned.
Under NSM, to this point 15 supercomputers have been put in throughout the nation with an combination compute capability of 24 petaflops. All these supercomputers have been manufactured in India and function on an indigenously developed software program stack, the assertion mentioned.
