The Delhi University has requested St.Stephen’s College to align its admission process with the college’s coverage, noting that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will present a degree taking part in subject to all candidates. The varsity made the comment on Monday, May 30, 2022.
The school had earlier stated it can accord 85 % weightage to the CUET rating and 15 per cent to bodily interviews for all classes of candidates. With the faculty refusing to eliminate the interview course of for admissions, the DU has stated it’s ‘firm’ on its resolution to declare ‘null and void’ all admissions made by the faculty in violation of the CUET pointers.
In a letter to St Stephen’s principal John Varghese on Monday, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta argued that including a rating primarily based on an interview to the rating which has already been obtained by a standardised statistically strong process, CUET-UG, will “eventually lead to discrimination”.
“It is expected that the college aligns its admission procedure with the admission policy of the university thus respecting the decision of the larger bench of the Supreme Court,” the registrar stated within the letter.
The letter comes days after Varghese conveyed to the college that the faculty will retain the interview course of and urged the Delhi University to abide by the 1992 Supreme Court judgement.The principal had stated the admission process of the faculty was accredited by the very best court docket within the nation.
Replying to it, the registrar had stated the 1992 judgment has “no direct relevance in the changed facts and circumstances” as now the admissions will likely be executed primarily based on the benefit obtained by candidates by CUET-UG.
On May 9, the DU had written to the faculty, asking it to conduct admissions to the unreserved seats solely primarily based on CUET scores.
