To give relief to the common man from the rising oil prices, there is a demand to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). However, no decision has been taken yet on the inclusion of petrol, diesel in GST. Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court has asked the central government to decide on a representation seeking to bring petroleum products under the GST regime.
A division bench of Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly has asked the government to take a decision on this within 6 weeks. Kerala Pradesh Gandhi Darshanvedi has filed a petition through Advocate Arun B Varghese to include petrol, diesel in GST. It was alleged by the petitioner that the rates of petrol and diesel are different in different states as the tax levied by each state is different.
Let us inform that Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that any decision regarding bringing petrol, diesel under the purview of Goods and Services Tax (GST) has to be taken by the GST Council. In many cities of the country, the price of petrol has reached above Rs 100 per liter.
Petrol and diesel costlier by more than Rs 3 in June
Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise. On Tuesday, oil companies have increased the price of petrol by 27-28 paise per liter and diesel by 26.28 paise per liter. After this increase, the price of one liter of petrol in Mumbai has gone up to Rs 103.63 while the price of one liter of diesel has gone up to Rs 95.72.
Petrol and diesel prices have jumped by more than Rs 3 this month. At the same time, from May 3, it has increased by Rs 8 per liter, while in the year 2021, petrol-diesel has become expensive by Rs 15.20.
