International footwear company Bata Shoe Organization has appointed Sandeep Kataria, the company’s head of Indian business, as global CEO of Bata Brands. This appointment has come into force with immediate effect. This is the first time in the history of the company when an Indian has been appointed as CEO. Kataria replaces Alexis Nasard. Nasard had been working as the CEO of Bata for the last five years. Kataria was the Chief Commercial Officer at Vodafone India before moving to Bata India.

Head of Bata India three years ago

Kataria was given charge as Bata’s head of Indian business three years ago. The company appointed him as the country manager on 1 August three years ago. He was then inducted into the Board of Directors of Bata India Limited as a full-time Director and CEO-India and his appointment became effective on 14 November 2017. The sales of Bata India led by Kataria increased.

IIT Delhi, XLRI Jamshedpur Alumni are Kataria

Kataria completed her studies from XLRI Jamshedpur and IIT Delhi. He holds general management and top sales and marketing at UM Restaurants. UM Restaurants is the owner of KFC, Pizza Hut and Takeo bull chains in India and Europe.

Employed in Unilever for 17 years

He has worked at Unilever for the longest time. He lived in this consumer goods company for 17 years. Here, his responsibility was to prepare and manage the market for products of home and personal care category in Indian and global market. He has nearly two and a half decades of experience.

Bata started 126 years

Bata Corporation is originally a company from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It was founded 126 years ago on 27 August 1894 by Thomas Bata. Its headquarters are currently in Lausanne, Switzerland. At present, Bata Shoe has more than 5300 shops in 18 countries of the world.

Indian heads of global companies

After Sandeep Kataria became the CEO of Bata, he joined the list of Indians who are holding key positions in global companies. The list includes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, MasterCard’s Ajay Banga, IBM’s Arvind Krishna and Novartis’s Vasant Narasimhan.
