Union minister lashed out at e-commerce companies
Union Minister Piyush Goyal expressed displeasure over the non-compliance of Indian rules made for the interest of customers by many e-commerce companies. Along with this, the companies were asked to accept it in any case. Not only this, he gave strict instructions to foreign companies to follow the guidelines. He said, “Indian market is huge and we welcome everyone, they have to work within the rules and laws of the country. These things were said by the Union Minister in a webinar.
Piyush Goyal, while lashing out at the e-commerce companies, said, “Unfortunately many big e-commerce companies have come to India and have flouted the laws of the country in many ways. I have been associated with these big companies, especially American companies.” Yes, I am happy with their growth, but their attempt to capture the Indian market and their attitude towards Indian customers is not right.”
Companies to follow the draft rule
The Union Minister cautioned all e-commerce companies that all companies should follow the law of the land and not use muscle or money force to hurt Indian interests. Many big online firms have come to India and in many ways they have openly violated the laws of the country. The practices that companies follow are against the interest of consumers and the government has recently come out with draft rules for e-commerce companies or marketplace model, which is applicable to all entities including Indian. These rules are to protect consumer interest.
appeal for transparency
Recalling one of his comments on the announcement of an e-commerce giant to invest USD 1 billion in India, Goyal said the company was funding as they had incurred losses in the last two years. The Union Minister also asked the e-commerce companies to answer the questions asked by the CCI (Competition Commission of India) and maintain transparency.
