Tata Group can make a big investment for setting up semiconductor assemblies. It is reported that it is in talks to set up semiconductor assembly and test units in three states of the country. According to the news of Reuters, it can impose Rs 2250 crore on them. The Tata Group is in talks with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana to set up Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plants. In these states, talk of land acquisition for the plant is going on.
Tata Group had indicated to enter the semiconductor business
The Tata group had said a few months ago that it could enter the semiconductor business. After this, this is the first news, which is indicating that the group has entered into it in a big way. The OSAT plant packages, assembles and tests foundry-made silicon wafers and converts them into finished semiconductor chips.
Sources told Reuters that the location for the semiconductor plant could be finalized by next month. The Tata group is very strong in terms of software. But now it wants to strengthen its position in hardware as well. This is very important for the long term growth of the group. Intel, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and STMicroelectronics could be potential customers of the Tata Group. Work in the group’s factories may start at the end of next year. In these 4000 people can get employment.

Group’s automobile industry also benefits from semiconductor business
The group’s auto business will also get the benefit of entering the semiconductor business. Due to the shortage of semiconductor chips around the world, car companies have had to reduce their production. The increasing demand for semiconductors has increased the prices of vehicles. If the Tata group assembles the semiconductor in the country itself, then the cost of its vehicle production can come down. This will help it to stay strong in the market competition.
