Why fuel prices differ in every state
India is dependent on imports to meet 85 per cent of its oil requirements. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) revise oil prices every day on the basis of international price and foreign exchange rates. The price of petrol and diesel is fixed on the basis of freight charges, local taxes and VAT, due to which its prices are different in every state.
