Despite knocking on time, the pace of monsoon has slowed down. The sowing of Kharif crops seems to be lagging behind due to delay in monsoon rains in most parts of the country. Despite normal rains, there is very little time left for sowing moong, urad and cotton. Below average rain spoiled agriculture
Due to the lack of rain, farmers are now planting crops that ripen in less time. Farmers are still hopeful that the pace of monsoon will pick up and with the increase in soil moisture, they will be able to increase sowing. According to the revised estimates of the Meteorological Department, the monsoon rains were to reach all the areas of the country by July 8. But till July 9, only 229.7 mm. rained out. It is 243.6 mm. 6% less than normal rainfall.
