New rules have been made to identify the purity of jewelery and prevent its misuse. Now every jewelery will have a unique identity, which will be recorded in the UID.
Jewelery will be identified by UID
Often people are not able to distinguish between real and fake while buying jewellery. Especially in small shops, this task becomes more difficult due to non-payment of bills, but now every jewelery will be identified. The maximum benefit from this will be in the purchase of gold jewellery. Under the new rule of the government, it will now be mandatory to make a Unique Identification (UID) of every city from July 1. In this, the jeweler’s code and the details of the identity of the stone will be recorded. This will give complete information about when and from where the jewelery was purchased.
All the details related to jewelry can be checked by feeding this UID into the mobile app being developed by BIS. With this, the truth of whether the jewelry is stolen or fake or real will also come to the fore. Not only this, shopkeepers will also benefit through UID. With this they will be able to know to which customer they had sold the jewelery of this UID.
Time till September for hallmarking
Hallmarking of gold jewelery has become mandatory in 256 districts of the country to test the purity of gold. The government has given time till September 1 for hallmarking of jewelers who have stock of old jewellery. Till then no action will be taken against any trader.
Now instead of four there will be three marks
There are four marks in the hallmarking of jewelry, in which the BIS logo, purity, hall-marking center and information about the jeweler are present. But now the number of marks in the new UID based hall-marking has been reduced to three. These will have the BIS logo, purity and overall seal.
