Ahmedabad. The Gujarat government has postponed the clerical recruitment exam to be held on February 13 indefinitely due to administrative reasons. This is the third time since the year 2019 that the written examination for the recruitment of Class III Non-Secretariat Clerks and Secretariat Service Office Assistants in the State Government has not been conducted due to different reasons.
The Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board (GSSSB) on Wednesday night announced in a public notice that the examination which was scheduled for February 13 has been postponed for the time being and new dates will be announced soon. According to the government data, around six lakh candidates had registered themselves for the recruitment of around 3500 posts of clerk and office assistant.
GSSSB had canceled the recruitment exam for the first time in October 2019, citing changes in eligibility criteria by the General Administration Department (GAD). At the time of release of advertisement for the recruitment, the board had announced that the candidates who have passed class 12th can be eligible for the exam. But, just before the exam date GAD changed the criteria and said that only graduate candidates can appear in the exam.
After a huge uproar, the state government had canceled the exam and announced that the candidates who have passed class 12th can also appear in the written exam. Later the recruitment exam was conducted on November 17, 2019. But, it was again canceled in December 2019 following allegations of paper leak. The decision to cancel the exam held earlier was taken after the findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government to probe the allegations of paper leaks came to the fore.
