After the death of the pensioner, the government has decided to reduce the struggle for family pension. For this the rules have been simplified. Now family members can easily take monthly pension after the death of the pensioner by selectively submitting the required documents. For speedy disposal of family pension cases, the government has also given instructions to the pension disbursing banks.
To get family pension, till now the family members or husband and wife had to submit all the other documents including the details of the members. Apart from this, they also have to complete many other formalities, due to which the settlement takes more time. To overcome this problem, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has asked the banks to rectify the situation at the earliest.
These documents are required if you have a joint account
Spouse or family member, whose name is included in the PPO issued to the deceased pensioner, will require certain documents to get the family pension. If the spouse has a joint account and the pensioner dies, handing over a simple application form, death certificate of the deceased, copy of the PPO issued to the pensioner, if available, proof of age/date of birth of the applicant Will be. On its verification, pension will start getting.
What to do if you have a single account
In cases where the spouse did not have a joint account with the deceased pensioner. For getting family pension, they will have to submit application in Form 14 signed by two witnesses, death certificate of deceased pensioner, copy of PPO issued to pensioner, certificate of applicant’s age/date of birth. All these documents have to be self attested.
How to take other family member’s pension
In cases where on the death of the pensioner and the spouse, the family pension is to be paid to any other member of the family. In such a situation, if another member of the family has been made a nominee for family pension in the PPO, then the same process will be followed as above. But if the name of the other family member is not included in the PPO, then they will have to approach the office where the government employee/pensioner last served for getting the new PPO issued.
