Power consumption in June: Electricity consumption in the country during June increased by about 10 percent to 115.39 billion units compared to June last year. However, this is still less than the level before COVID-19. According to the Ministry of Power, the consumption of electricity in the country had come down to 105.08 billion units in June 2020 during the strict restrictions imposed due to COVID. Despite the improvement, the power consumption in June 2021 is lower than the consumption of 117.98 billion units in June 2019.
By the way, on June 30, electricity demand reached its all-time high. On Wednesday it was 191.24 GW. The previous record high was on 31 January 2021. The power consumption of that day was 189.64 GW. The new record for June 30 was 12.46 pm. In fact, the monsoon has not come completely in northern India, due to which the heat is increasing and the demand for electricity is high.
4.7 percent increase in June compared to May
On a monthly basis, electricity consumption in June grew by 4.7 per cent as against 110.17 billion units in May. According to experts, the recovery in power demand and consumption in June this year has not been as slow as was predicted in view of the early onset of monsoon in the second fortnight of the month. He said that if the monsoon had arrived in the country earlier than the normal time as per the weather forecast, the improvement in power consumption and demand would have been even slower.
Industrial demand expected to pick up from July
Experts believe that the reduction in new cases of COVID and the easing of restrictions may increase commercial and industrial demand for electricity from July onwards. Former Union Energy Secretary SN Sahai tweeted on Wednesday, ‘Power demand with 191,243 MW units as on June 30, surpassed the level of 189,644 MW units as of January 31, 2021.’ According to the new data, on June 30, 2021, the electricity consumption in the country was recorded at 4384 million units (MU), which is the highest daily electricity consumption till date.
3 lakh crore for power distribution scheme
The Modi cabinet has approved Rs 3.03 lakh crore for the power distribution scheme on Wednesday itself. From this fund, discoms will be given money for infrastructure construction and improvement. In this fund of 3 lakh crores, the central government will give Rs 97631 crore. In the midst of the Corona crisis, some more important announcements have been made to improve the condition of discoms. In this, 25 crore smart digital meters, 10 thousand feeders and 4 lakh kilometer LT overhead lines have been approved.
Electricity will be available at cheap rates
After getting the green signal from the government, now the power companies will be able to get electricity at a cheaper rate. At the same time, the companies which are working on the smart meter project will also be able to benefit from it. In fact, the mission of the Modi government is that 24 hours electricity can be provided to every district, town and village of the country. Now it is believed that this scheme will get a boost from this fund.
