The Parliament building is about to change and the construction of the new parliamentary building is going to start in December this year. All the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions will be held in the new building, it is expected to be completed by October 2022 in the next two years. The winter session of Parliament will continue to take place in the existing building and there will be no obstruction. It is worth noting that the construction of the new Parliament building is starting at a time when the Delhi government has suggested to stop the construction work due to the increasing pollution levels in the national capital.
However, according to the report, the officials overseeing the work have informed that adequate steps have been taken to control air and noise pollution during construction work.
The new building will have a large parking space
Quoting the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the report said that the new Parliament building will be constructed in such a way that all MPs get their own offices and these offices will have the latest digital interfaces so that paperless offices can be created. A Constitution Hall will also be present in the new building which will showcase India’s democratic heritage. Other features of Parliament will have a new lounge, several committee rooms, a library, a dining area and large parking space for all MPs.

The space for members and their seating arrangement is also being increased. Currently, the Parliament has seats for 543 Lok Sabha members and 245 Rajya Sabha members. However, 888 Lok Sabha members and Rajya Sabha seats have been increased to 384 in the new building. The report says that the changes are being made in view that the number of members of the upper house and the lower house may increase in future.
