aadhar number
Aadhar Card is mandatory for all Indian citizens. It is no less than an identity card. From government dealings to personal finance, you need this card for everything. Aadhaar card holders get a unique 12 digit Aadhaar number which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It contains all the sensitive information of the person and hence is more vulnerable to activities like fraud.
Therefore, people are a little worried whether others knowing their unique identification number may cause any trouble for them. As many people who have linked their bank account with Aadhaar are concerned whether their bank account can be hacked by someone who knows about their Aadhaar number.
UIDAI gave this answer
UIDAI has answered this question and informed people that this is not true and there is no need to worry. Just like knowing your ATM card number, no one can withdraw money from ATM machine. In the same way, just by knowing your Aadhaar number, no one can hack your bank account or withdraw money.
UIDAI said that if you do not share your PIN / OTP given by banks with anyone, then your bank account is safe. Aadhaar number alone cannot be used for banking or any other service.
lock-unlock feature
However, to prevent falling prey to financial frauds, UIDAI has given a special facility to the users to lock and unlock the Aadhaar card number online. This new ‘lock and unlock your Aadhar number’ feature will not allow anyone to misuse your Aadhar card number as Virtual ID authentication will be required.
