Indian Railways is increasing the number of special trains across the country to meet the demand for travel. The Western Railway zone of Indian Railways has decided to increase the trips of 6 more special trains and to make the trips of 9 pairs of special trains daily from tri-weekly. Indian Railways is increasing the number of special trains across the country as the number of new Covid-19 cases is decreasing.
With the gradual unlocking of cities, the railways is helping to bring back the workers. Around 32.56 lakh passengers including migrant workers and other passengers traveled in the last 7 days. Long distance Mail Express trains are operating from areas like Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha to various cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad and Chennai.
983 trains run till 18 June
Till 18th June, 983 Mail/Express and Holiday Special (56 percent from pre-Covid level) trains are running by Indian Railways. Apart from this, 1,309 Summer Specials have also been operated to facilitate the movement of people who want to return to work. For the next 10 days (June 19 to June 28), 29.15 lakh passengers including migrant workers and other passengers traveled from areas like Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha to various destinations including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Booking is done for long distance mail by express trains.
