Amazon is preparing for its Prime Day event to be held on July 26-27. More than 100 small and medium enterprises (SME) vendors will launch more than 2,400 new products on its marketplace. These will include products from the home and kitchen, fashion, beauty, jewellery, stationery, lawn and garden, grocery and electronics categories. Vendors will include startups and brands, women entrepreneurs, artisans and weavers. The company gave this information on Sunday. With this, 75,000 local shops on Amazon from over 450 cities will join the Prime Day sale for the first time in India.

In addition, over 800 startups and brands will launch products in electronics, grocery, beauty and grooming, apparel and home and kitchen as part of Amazon Launchpad. Amazon Launchpad is a global program that brings products from startups and emerging brands to Amazon customers.
Praveen Bhasin, Experience Director, MSME & Selling Partner, Amazon India, said in a statement that in continuation of their efforts to help small businesses bounce back from the crisis, they are dedicating this Prime Day to small and medium enterprises, In which more than 75,000 local offline shops will be included in Prime Day for the first time on Amazon.
Amazon also said that more than 500 women-led businesses, NGOs and government organizations will make 90 thousand products available through the Amazon Saheli program. Whereas more than 1.2 million artisans will present more than 272 crafts like Sambalpuri Sarees, Jamdani Sarees etc. Currently, Amazon Prime has over 200 million members in 22 countries across India.

The company had said earlier this week that it would develop its network of fulfillment centres, under which the existing nine centers would be expanded and 11 new centers would be launched. The expansion will increase the storage capacity at the company’s fulfillment centers by 40 per cent, while the total storage capacity will be 43 million cubic feet for its 8.5 lakh vendors, mostly MSMEs.
