New Delhi: Air India said that it has resumed six Indo-US flights on Thursday with Boeing B777 aircraft. The airline said that the aircraft manufacturer Boeing has given approval to operate these aircraft, after which this step has been taken. He also said that flights to America will return to normal from late on Thursday.(5G Controversy)
Air India on Wednesday canceled eight India-US flights due to 5G internet in North America as 5G internet can interfere with the aircraft’s radio altimeter. US aviation regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a new directive on Thursday that radio altimeters installed on certain types of aircraft, including the B777, will not be affected by 5G services.
Subsequently, an Air India spokesperson told PTI that Boeing has given approval to operate flights to the US with B777 aircraft. “The first flight left for JFK (New York) this morning,” the spokesperson said on Thursday. Other daytime flights are to Chicago and SFO (San Francisco). Arrangements are being made to transport the stranded passengers. The issue of flights going to America by B777 has been resolved.
Air India flights that resumed operations on Thursday include Delhi-New York, New York-Delhi, Delhi-Chicago, Chicago-Delhi, Delhi-San Francisco and San Francisco-Delhi. Along with these six flights, two other flights – Mumbai-Newark and Newark-Mumbai – were canceled by Air India on Wednesday.
Boeing did not respond to a PTI-language request for a statement on the subject. On the other hand, Air India said on Twitter that operations of flights to and from the US were affected for two days and normal operations of flights will return to normal from 12.01 pm on Thursday. The radio altimeter measures the altitude of the aircraft from the ground. This allows the aircraft to land even in low visibility. The frequency band on which the altimeter operates is close to the functionality of 5G (5G Contraversy).
