Public procurement from GEM portal crosses Rs 1 lakh crore
Public procurement of goods and services from the government’s e-market (GeM) portal has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore. This portal was launched in August 2016. A senior official of GeM said that the procurement data from the portal is increasing rapidly due to increasing procurement activities of various ministries. The online purchase of goods and services for all central government ministries and departments was launched on August 9, 2016 on the GEM portal.
Geleen Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Taleen Kumar said that since the beginning, great progress has been made towards increasing the reach and level of this portal. Shopping beyond 1 lakh crore rupees
He said, the number of purchases of goods and services of state and central government organizations on GEM was 51,154 crore rupees a year ago. On March 25 this year, it has increased to Rs 1,00610.3 crore.
Kumar said that the number of sellers on this portal was 3.45 lakh a year ago, which has now increased to 12.67 lakh. The number of registered startup units on this platform has also increased from 5,592 to 8,864.
Where did the shopping happen?
Kumar said that the purchase of central public units has increased to Rs 2,884 crore by March 25. It was Rs 914 crore in the 2019-20 fiscal year.
Similarly, the Ministry of Defense has purchased products and services worth Rs 5,166 crore through the portal till 25 March. In 2019-20, this figure was Rs 2,830 crore. Kumar said that during the last 20 months, more than 2000 software processes have been installed on this platform.

Any vendor who produces and sells suitable and certified products can register on the Gem portal. To register on GEM, create a user ID and password by visiting https://mkp.gem.gov.in/registration/signup#!/seller. To create a user ID, you will need Aadhaar / PAN, Mobile number and Email ID.
After creating the user ID, login to GEM. Here enter the details of office address, bank account, experience etc. on your profile. Select the product or service in the catalog option of your dashboard, the products and services you want to sell.

These documents are important
For registration on GeM, the applicant should have PAN card, Udyog Aadhaar or MCA 21 registration, VAT / TIN number, bank account and KYC documents such as identity card, residence proof and cancellation check.
