- Applicants already licensed cannot apply:- Such a person who has previously obtained a license for a ration shop but his license has been cancelled due to some reason, then he cannot apply for it again.
- Legal Offender:- Persons who are guilty under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. He will also not be eligible for this.
- Other License:- If a person already has a license for cooking oil, sugar, wheat, rice etc., given by the Food Department. So he too cannot apply for ration shop.

- The place where you are opening the shop should have full papers, whether that place is yours or you have taken it on rent by signing the rent agreement.
- It should be such an area for the shop, in front of which there is at least 15 feet wide road. So that if people go to get ration, then people do not have trouble in buying ration.
- The height and width of the shop should be from 3 meters to 5 meters.
- If there is a flour mill near the ration shop, it will make it easier for people to buy ration and get wheat milled.
How to Apply for License to Open Ration Shop
If you live in urban areas then you can apply for a license to open a ration shop. But if you are living in rural area then the process for this has been kept offline for now. Here we are telling you the process of applying for license for the people living in both the areas –
For rural people –
- A meeting is organized to find out whether there is a need for a ration shop in the rural area. The reason for holding this meeting arises when the people living in that village have to travel long distances to get ration, or they are not happy with the behaviour of their ration distributor.
- The responsibility of overseeing this meeting is given to the Assistant Block Development Officer. The names of the people who opened the ration shop go in front of them.
- Then the qualification and other conditions of those candidates whose names are given are verified. They are also given a form by the block officer which they have to fill and submit. Along with this, all their documents are also submitted and checked. If a candidate does not have any kind of certificate, then he can contact his village sarpanch or assistant block development officer for the same.
- Then the application form and documents of all the selected candidates are sent to the Block Development Officer. And then after it is verified by them it is sent to the District Supply Officer.
- After this all the documents go to the District Magistrate. And they get the license from here, but let us tell you that before getting the license, you have to pay the basis of the states and some rupees in the form of security.

For people of an urban areas –
- If there is a place in the city where there is a 4,000 unit area, a notification is issued by the government to open a ration shop. This notification is made available to the people through the local newspaper and the official website of the concerned department. And then those who are interested for it can apply.
- Applicants can apply by visiting the official website of the concerned department. After filling the application form, it is inspected which is done by Circle Supply Inspector.
- After that the applicants are selected. This selection is done by the selection committee on the basis of the inspection report. The people who are included in the selection committee include District Supply Officer, District Magistrate or Additional Magistrate, Chief Development Officer, a selected person from the Revenue Department etc.
- The application of the applicant selected by the Selection Committee is sent to the District Supply Officer for further scrutiny. Along with the scrutiny of the application, the District Supply Officer also checks the eligibility and behavior of the applicant.
- After this, the final application is sent to the District Magistrate again and only then the applicant has to pay the fee charged by the government for the ration shop. This is a security fee.
