ford India’s Bleak future : There were speculations that Ford India’s operations in India would be shut down after the formal closure of the joint venture between Ford India and Mahindra. Ford India is going through a difficult phase at the moment and from the circumstances at this time it seems that this company may also close its operations in India. For some time now, Ford India has not launched any vehicle other than its SUVs like the EcoSport and the Endeavor. The Figo automatic is also being launched quite late. The second generation Figo is also quite late. Apart from this, there is no special feature nor powertrain in it.
Production below capacity at Ford’s plant
Though a Ford India spokesperson did not comment on the company’s current situation, Ford India has failed to strike a balance between price and features in a market like India. The Figo automatic may launch next month but the segment already has Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki, Baleno and Volkswagen Polo.
Ford has two plants at Marimalai and Sanand and both are producing below their capacity. There are reports that Ola Electric may acquire both these plants for its ambitious plan. Ford India’s new investment is also difficult as Ford is closing its plants around the world or reducing their capacity. At present, there is no clear picture of the launch of Ford Ranger Raptor lifestyle vehicles.

Will Ford India’s fate be the same as that of General Motors?
The question is whether Ford India is also following the path of General Motors. In 2015, General Motors included India-made vehicles on the international display but the company had to shut down its sales operations in India. That too when the then CEO of General Motors Mary Bara was ready to invest in India. Now Ford India neither has any product to launch nor is there any new investment in it. No vehicle based on the company’s new technology is also coming to India. In such a situation, the future of Ford India looks uncertain in India.
The future of Ford India rests on a joint venture with another company. There are reports that Ford India is in talks with some other companies for a joint venture but no results are visible at the moment.
