Anand Mahindra on Twitter : Industrialist Anand Mahindra revealed in a tweet on January 20 that he wanted to become a filmmaker and studied the subject in college. The chairperson of Mahindra Group was responding to a query from a Twitter user who asked what he wanted to become as a student.
Mahindra did film studies
A Twitter user named Easwaran said, “You are now leading a big Mahindra group. But what was your ambition during your school/college days? Do you ever remember any other favorite profession?”
Mahindra said that the answer to this question is simple. He said, “I wanted to be a filmmaker and studied it in college. My thesis was a film I made on ’77 Kumbh Mela’.”
A documentary was shot near Indore
The industrialist also shared a black-and-white photo of his shooting assignments. He said, “This pic was taken when he was shooting for a documentary in a remote village near Indore. One can guess here which 16mm camera is in my hand.
Easy to answer this. I wanted to be a filmmaker & was studied film in college. My thesis was a film I made at the ‘77 Kumbh Mela. But this pic was while shooting a documentary in a remote village near Indore. Anyone old enough to guess which handheld 16mm camera I was using? https://t.co/xmLuuLrv3A pic.twitter.com/oKCddQFyGf

One Twitter user said, “It was a Bolex hand-wound camera. We were given this to shoot the first round of silent films at MCRC in 1990.”
Mira Nair was a junior at Harvard
Another person asked Mahindra if his photo was clicked by well-known Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair. In response she said, “No, but she was just a year junior to him in the film department of the same college. And when I left film and went to business school, she used to tease me that I was sold to the company.”
No, but she was only a year junior to me in college in the same college film department. And she’s always kidded me that I ‘sold out to the establishment’ when I left film behind & went to Business School! https://t.co/meW7wqwIQ7 — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) January 20, 2022
Mahindra and Nair studied at Harvard University. Nair is known for his films like The Namesake, Monsoon Wedding and Salaam Bombay.
Mahindra had said in his group’s magazine published in 2014 that his love for films and filmmaking can be gauged from his childhood.
