TVS Motor Company had acquired British bike company Norton a year ago and now the company is ready to start its production. TVS is set to begin production of Norton Motorcycles at its brand new facility by the end of the first half of this year.
Work on the company’s Solar Park facility near Coventry, Solihull, is expected to be completed soon. The facility is expected to produce 8,000 high-end premium motorcycles every year. The company’s first production will be the 1,200cc, 200bhp Norton V4 SS model.

Norton is the world’s oldest (123 years) and most popular British motorcycle brand. TVS has bought this company in April 2020 for 16 million British pounds. TVS Motor Company in its latest annual report said, “During the financial year 2020-21, Norton as a new brand has evolved to build vision and strategy, enhance organizational strength, establish supply chain network, enhance product readiness, product planning and Focused on marketing strategy. Production and sales from the new facility will commence during the first half of FY 2021-22.
Along with this, the company further said in its annual report that Norton Motorcycle Company has got around Rs 76 crore in FY 2021. Simultaneously, in May this year, the company announced the appointment of Robert Henschel as Chief Executive Officer and Vittorio Urcioli as Chief Technical Officer of Norton. Simultaneously John Russell, the former managing director of Harley-Davidson Europe, resigned from his role as interim CEO of Norton.
Indian bike makers show interest in foreign companies
In the last few years, Indian two-wheeler companies have shown a lot of interest in popular foreign companies. The Mahindra & Mahindra Group reincarnated the Jawa brand and is also working on bikes under the Yezdi brand along with the UK’s BSA brand.
Apart from this, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp has also partnered with Harley-Davidson, the world’s most popular cruiser bike. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto has joined hands with KTM of Austria and Triumph Motorcycles of UK. Apart from these, TVS has partnered with BMW Motorrad to manufacture sub-500cc bikes which are being produced for both global and domestic. The company has so far produced a total of 83,592 units of the BMW 310cc motorcycle.
