Takao Sato, head of Toyota Motor’s Lunar Cruiser project, said the idea behind this vehicle is that people eat, work, sleep and communicate safely in cars. The same is done outside space. That is, the vehicle is being prepared on the same lines.
Talking to a news agency, he said that we see space as an area where telecommunications and other technologies can be developed. These will prove to be valuable for human life.
Gitai Japan, a contracting company with Toyota, has developed a robotic arm for the Lunar Cruiser. It has been designed for tasks like project inspection and maintenance. Its ‘grapple fixture’ can also replace the arm’s end, which can then function as a scooping, lifting and sweeping machine. Gitai’s chief executive Nakanos said working in space would cost the astronauts a great deal and put them at risk. In such a situation, only these robots will come in handy.
Founded in the 1930s, Toyota is concerned about losing a major business to the changing times. The company has forayed into the field of housing, boats, jets and robots. Its net-connected sustainable residential quarters near Mount Fuji in Japan will be ready by the end of this year. It is also known as Woven City.
At the same time, the interest of the people of Japan towards the Moon is also increasing.
A private Japanese venture named ispace – Lunar Rovers, is working on landing and orbiting. The country’s big businessman Yusaku Maezawa is also going to visit the moon in the year 2023. Yusaku will make this journey through Elon Musk’s company SpaceX SpaceX. He has also booked it and recently returned after spending 12 days in space.
