The company has delivered 275,000 imported and domestically made Model 3 and Model Y in China since 2019. Most of these cars are being recalled due to a fault in the autopilot mode of these cars.
Tesla Model 3
There have been constant questions about Tesla’s Autopilot mode and now in this episode, the company plans to recall 285,000 electric vehicles sold in China. The company has taken this decision in view of a glitch in its autopilot feature, which has been investigated by the market regulator of China.
The company has recalled 38,599 Chinese-made Model Y cars along with 211,256 locally produced Model 3 cars and 35,665 imported cars. In a statement, the State Administration for Market Regulation said that the main reason for this recall is that their autopilot system is easily activated during drive and this can increase the incidence of car crashes. Along with this, it was also said that Tesla will update the Autopilot system of the recalled cars for free.
According to local registration data for May, Tesla has delivered 275,000 imported and domestically made Model 3 and Model Y since 2019. Most of these cars have been recalled due to safety issues.
The decision taken for this reason
According to the statement, the decision to recall these cars was taken after the market regulator conducted an inquiry regarding product defects. The recall includes imported Model 3 cars manufactured between January 12 and November 27, 2019, Model 3 cars produced locally between December 19, 2019 and June 7, 2021, and Model Y cars manufactured from June 7 this year.
Let us tell you that Tesla has faced a lot of troubles in recent months. In April, a video of a protest at the Shanghai Auto Show went viral. After this, there was also a case of some incidents due to the autopilot feature which can spoil the image of the company. Some local governments and official institutions were also reviewing Tesla ownership among their employees, according to a Bloomberg report, over concerns that the cars could pose a safety risk. However, the increase in sales of the China-made Model Y in May has somewhat eased the concerns.
