This car has completed 37 years since its launch. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the first Maruti Suzuki factory on 14 December 1983 and gave the keys of the first Maruti 800 to Harpal Singh. Let us tell you that the name of Harpal Singh was selected by lucky draw and he became the owner of the first Maruti 800 car in India. At that time the price of this car was kept at Rs 47,500. After this, this car remained the best selling car in India till 2004.
After this, another car of Maruti Suzuki, Maruti Alto took the title of best selling car. After this, its sales declined and a decade later, in 2014, Maruti Suzuki produced the last unit of this iconic car on 18 January at its plant in Gurgaon. The company has sold a total of 27 lakh Maruti 800 cars since its launch in 1983 till its closure.
