Ola bought Etergo last year and the company is believed to be bringing its first electric scooter to India with the help of this Netherlands-based startup.
Ola Scooter bookings have started
Ola is gearing up for the launch of its much-awaited electric scooter which will be available for sale in India in the next few weeks. The company has now started the official booking of the new scooter. Interested customers can reserve the units online on the company’s official website. When launched, the scooter will give tough competition to the already established rivals like Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.
Recently, Ola’s head Bhavish Aggarwal revealed some features of Ola’s upcoming scooter. The group CEO of the company recently announced on Twitter that the scooter will have features like largest boot space, app-based keyless access and segment-leading range.

As per the previous claims, the upcoming electric scooter from Ola will get charged from empty to 50% in just 18 minutes. This charging time will be good enough to give a range of 75 km, while the full charge range of the scooter is said to be around 150 km. If the claims have any basis then the scooter will sport a longer range than most of its rivals including the Ather 450X and TVS iQube.
Apart from this, other features of the scooter will include full-LED lighting, fast charging capabilities, front disc brake and more. Expect more details about the scooter in the next few days. It is likely to go on sale in India by the end of the current month. Its price can be somewhere between 1 lakh to 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company aims to manufacture 15% of the world’s e-scooters by the summer of 2022 and the company also wants to export these scooters. While Ola was laying off 1,400 employees in May 2020 due to a 96% drop in revenue, Ola Electric acquired Amsterdam-based electric scooter company Etergo BV to launch its line of scooters.
Ola Electric was founded in 2017 and in 2019 it entered the Unicorn Club, becoming the fastest Indian Unicorn. It has raised around $307 million so far from some of the leading investors like Tiger Global Management, SoftBank, Tata Sons, Matrix Partners, Hyundai Motor and its subsidiary Kia Motors. Unicorn is a private company valued at over $1 billion.
