Powering the Suzuki Jimny Lite will come from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder, K-Series petrol engine that generates 102 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque. Know what else is special in this…
Suzuki Jimny Sierra
Suzuki has revealed the more affordable variant of the Jimny Sierra 4×4 for the Australian market and the new variant will be called the Suzuki Jimny Lite. Scheduled to be launched in Australia in August this year, it is a no-frills variant of the off-roader but will fetch a more affordable price tag when it goes on sale. While Australia will be the first market to get the new Jimny Lite, it may be sold in other countries at a later stage.
Compared to the standard Suzuki Jimny Sierra sold on the International, the new Jimny Lite will be slightly less comfortable. This includes 15-inch alloy wheels that have been replaced with black painted 15-inch steel wheels, while the 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has been replaced by the standard 2-DIN audio system. The Jimny Light will also not have projector headlamps and fog lamps, while the electrically adjustable ORVMs will be replaced with plastic ones as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
Engine will be as strong as before
However, power will come from the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder, K-Series petrol engine that generates 102 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include only a 5-speed manual, while those looking at a 4-speed torque converter will have to get the more expensive variant of the off-roader currently available. Other mechanical bits will also remain the same which includes 4×4 with low range feature. Suzuki Jimny Lite will be manufactured in Japan and will be exported to Australia.
5-door variant may come to India
There is no information yet about when Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Jimny in India. The automaker is already producing the model locally here and exporting it abroad, but India is expected to get a 5-door variant which is reportedly under development. This variant will compete with the upcoming 5-door variant of the Mahindra Thar SUV. The 5-door variant is expected to get a 300 mm longer wheelbase, while the model will be based on the facelifted variant of the SUV which will also get cosmetic changes and new features.
It may use a turbocharged petrol engine that packs more power than before. The Suzuki Jimny five-door is expected to debut at the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show.
