This vehicle has been tested in every way. It gave excellent results after running continuously for 9 hours. The company says that, now it has become the world’s highest range solar electric car.
Lightyear CEO has said that he is very happy with the performance of this car
Solar electric vehicle maker Lightyear recently tested its Lightyear One prototype car, which covered 710 km on a single battery charge of 60 kWh for about nine hours. The EV maker says the Lightyear One is the world’s first long-range solar electric vehicle. The prototype car was taken via Lightyear to the Aldenhoven Testing Center in Germany where it completed a drive track at a speed of 85 kmph.
The testing was done on a single battery charge of 60 kWh. Lightyear believes that even the most efficient electric cars on the market today consume about 50% more energy at this lower speed. Everything was tested in the testing including solar panel, wheel function, cooling system consumption, software operating and battery performance. The EV maker emphasized that a long-range solar car could pose a huge opportunity and change mobility as one cannot drive a vehicle for months without charging.
Lightyear’s co-founder and CEO of Lex Hofslut noted that this is an important engineering and technical milestone for the company as the electric car’s performance validates previously patented technology. That said, the prototype has a range of over 440 miles and consumes only 137 Wh/mile of energy at 53 mph. This milestone is a great confirmation of the scalability of our business model.
At the same time, he further said that, we are confident that in the coming months we will be able to reach the same level of energy consumption from highway speed. The reduced energy consumption per mile of the EV means you can deliver a lot more range on a smaller battery.” Hoefsloot also points out that adding solar cells to low-energy cars can be an advantage as it can charge about 45 miles on a sunny day.
The company has said that an exclusive series of 946 Lightyear Ones will go into production in the first half of 2022 as it seeks to explore the Masquet on a large scale from 2024 onwards.
