A few days ago, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari urged Tesla to start manufacturing EVs in India soon.
The long-awaited wait of Indians for Tesla cars is about to end, soon Tesla cars will be seen running on the roads of India. Tesla is set to make its first electric car in India this year and the American electric vehicle manufacturer has started establishing its base in the Indian market.
Earlier this year, Tesla registered itself in Bengaluru and according to an ET report, it is now going to build its headquarters in the Lower Parel-Worli area in Mumbai. The company will set up its production base in Karnataka. The company is evaluating some ready-made commercial projects in Lower Parel for a 40,000-square-foot office.
Tesla has started hiring for top positions from alumni of IIM Bengaluru. Manuj Khurana has been appointed as the head of policy and business development for India operations. The company has also hired Nishant Prasad as the Charging Manager to handle Tesla’s supercharging, destination charging and home charging businesses. He was previously the head of Charging Infrastructure and Energy Storage at Ather Energy. Along with this, Tesla India has Chitra Thomas as the HR leader in India, who was earlier working at Walmart and Reliance Retail.
Tesla Club India said in a tweet, “Tesla India is moving at full speed with the formation of a local team. We are excited to see progress. Hope to see you (Musk) in India.
Last week, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari urged Tesla to start manufacturing EVs in India. During his address in Raisina Dialogue 2021, he said that this is a golden opportunity for the company to start manufacturing in India. Gadkari also said that Indian EV manufacturers are improving the quality of their models and local manufacturing means they are able to price their products at a competitive price. Similarly, Tesla will also benefit if it is interested in local manufacturing.
