Tata Motors is reportedly setting up another production line for the Altroz EV and its launch is more likely sometime next year.
Tata Motors revealed the Altroz EV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Since it was in near-production form, an electric variant of the premium hatchback was expected after the introduction of the Nexon EV. However, this has not happened yet. It has a lot in common with the zero-emission Nexon, which is currently the best selling electric vehicle in the country.
Tata is reportedly setting up another production line for the Altroz EV and its launch is more likely sometime next year. This is the second electric model based on Ziptron technology and is likely to get an extra battery pack option. The bigger battery pack is said to provide 25 to 40 percent more driving range, which equates to around 500 km. The same battery pack will also be made available in the Nexon EV and thus will help in expanding its range.
The range limit for the Nexon EV is 312 kms.
Electric SUV Nexon EV recorded its highest ever monthly sales in June 2021 and this helped Tata register over 70 percent market share in the passenger EV space. It currently uses a 30.2 kWh battery pack that produces 127 bhp of maximum power. Its range limit as claimed is 312 km and peak torque of up to 245 Nm is generated. It also gets Drive and Sport ride modes.
Altroz EV will get fast and wall-mounted charger support
The Tata Altroz EV showcased the same battery pack and electric motor as the Nexon EV at the Auto Expo. The Li-ion battery pack works in conjunction with a stable magnetic AC motor that drives the front wheels and a driving range of 250-300 km is said to be targeted on a single charge. A three-pin wall-mounted charger was also said to be offered along with a 25 kW DC fast charger. A target of about 60 minutes was set for zero to 80 percent charging.
While we expect the Tata Altroz EV to remain the same as the concept variant with blue accents and the latest tri-arrow influence, the machinery bits may vary. New details of the Tata Altroz EV have surfaced online, courtesy a report on TeamBHP. There is a lot of discussion on social media about its 500 km range. It is also being said that the battery of the Altroz EV will be 40 percent bigger than that of the Nexon.
