Renault Nissan India Thozhilalar Sangam (RNITS) said in a statement that, they do not want to put the lives of the workers at risk so no one will go to work till the demand is fulfilled.

Renault and Nissan’s joint venture plant in Chennai is not taking the name of the ruckus between the employees and the company. The Labor Union has decided not to come to work on the plant being restarted on Monday by the company. The Labor Union has decided not to return to work until the COVID security measures are taken.
Renault Nissan India Thozhilalar Sangam (RNITS) said in a statement that, its executive committee has considered the apprehensions about the safety of the workers and they do not want to put their lives at risk. According to the union, the company management was not keen to reduce production by cutting footfall to maintain social distance inside the plant. The union said, social distance is not being followed in the body shop conveyor line of the car plant.
Further, the management did not give any approval to the union regarding their demand for rehabilitation measures for the family members of the workers who died due to COVID-19 and medical treatment for the affected workers.
RNITS has written to the company management, “So far 200 workers have been given the first dose of vaccine alone and immunity has not developed even among them. The union’s request is to operate Line 1 in 3 shifts and Line 2 in 2 shifts to ensure social distancing through less footfall. This demand has not been accepted by the management. “
Last week, RNITS announced an indefinite boycott from May 26 till the COVID-19 safety measures are implemented in the factory. RITS President K.K. Balaji Krishnan previously reported, “Since last year, five employees have died in Renault Nissan Automotive and about 850 have been infected with coronaviruses.”
Later Renault Nissan Automotive decided to close the plant for five days. May 26 to May 30 – and resumed production on May 31.
