The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said on Tuesday that it has made the deployment of Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) mandatory to ensure better quality of roads. The NSV uses a high resolution camera to capture highways pictures and includes many other features.
NHAI said in a statement, “In line with its commitment to provide better roads to passengers, NHAI has decided to deploy Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) to enhance the quality of national highways. After the completion of this project and after that it has been made mandatory to survey the road condition using NSV on national highways and certify it every six months. ”
This provision has also been included as a part of the standard bidding document of Consultancy Services.
What will be special in NSV system
NHAI stated, “The deployment will help enhance the overall quality of highways as the NSV uses the latest survey technology such as high-resolution digital cameras for 3,600 imagery, recording photo / video at regular intervals, laser road profilometer and The second related technology involves assessing the difficulties. “
The statement said that NSV will also help in gathering data to analyze road conditions including road surface measurements, surface cracks, pits and patches. Apart from this, NSV will also provide data information related to side drains, road furniture etc.
Data will be uploaded on AI based portal
The data collected through the NSV survey will be uploaded to the AI based portal of NHAI, where it is analyzed by the Road Asset Management Cell (RAMS Cell) to assess road conditions / roughness to prioritize maintenance. Will be done. The statement said that the data will help in maintaining the status of asset inventory and road assets.
Apart from providing important information on road network planning, providing relevant information on other aspects like road safety measures, it will also help in developing highway maintenance strategies, analysis of maintenance and choice of better maintenance.
NHAI said that data collected through NSV survey will highlight deficiencies in road conditions, corrective steps to be taken by BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) operators / NHAI officials to bring road conditions to desired level Has been asked to lift. This will lead to better maintenance of national highways, making traveling on the highway a more comfortable and better experience for users.
