The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has alerted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) as well as vehicle manufacturer companies in view of the possible threat of a cyberattack on the Indian transport sector.
The ministry has said that it has been alerted by the Indian Consumer Immunity Response Team (CERT-In) about the danger of such an attack. A statement issued by the ministry said, “The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has received a message from the CERT-In about the possibility of interference with malicious intent targeted towards the Indian transport sector.” In view of this situation, the Ministry has asked the departments and organizations under it to keep their information technology framework strong. ”
Alert is given to these agencies
Ministry urges NIC, AHAI, NHIDCL, Indian Roads Congress, Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE), State Road Public Works Department, testing agencies and vehicle manufacturers to conduct safety audits of CERT-in certified agencies for their entire IT system. Have done.
The Ministry has asked these organizations and agencies to conduct such security audits on a regular basis and take further steps on the recommendations made by them. It has also been asked to submit such audit report and action report thereon to the Ministry on a regular basis.
NHAI will monitor periodically
NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has decided to periodically conduct a quality audit and independent inspection of projects. This will ensure quality in the construction of projects. Under this, 51 projects have been selected in the first phase. Apart from this, an independent inspection of projects will also be done from time to time to strengthen the quality audit system.
NHAI said that the motive behind this whole exercise is to assess the quality system of the developers and its implementation. NHAI said, “To achieve this objective, various quality inspection teams have been formed for inspection of national highway projects. The Chief Engineer level retired officers of the Central / State Governments are leading these teams. The technical officers of NHAI are helping them in this. ”
