Land Rover Defender Suv
Jaguar Land Rover has announced that it is working on a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle which is the Land Rover Defender SUV. Hydrogen fuel cell has been used in the prototype Defender SUV. This vehicle can be tested by the end of this year. Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle generates electricity from hydrogen which powers the electric motor. It is an alternative to battery powered electric vehicles.
The fuel cell electric vehicle concept is part of the Jaguar Lander Rover, which is aiming for zero emissions by 2036. The Jaguar Land Rover Advanced Engineering Project, named Project Zeus, has been funded by the UK Government’s Advanced Propulsion Centre.
The prototype Defender FCEV testing is aimed at testing several parts, including off-roading tests and fuel consumption. Jaguar Land Rover has partnered with Delta Motorsport, AVL, Marelli Automotive Systems and the UK Battery Industrialization Center here to research, develop and build the Defender prototype SUV.
Zero carbon emissions target
Ralph Clague, Jaguar Land Rover’s Head of Hydrogen and Fuel Sales, said, “We know the huge role hydrogen plays in electric vehicles, along with future powertrains and the entire transportation industry. With its help, we can meet the target of zero carbon emissions. We will complete this by the year 2039.
Why are hydrogen fuel cell vehicles special?
Hydrogen powered fuel cell electric vehicles are designed for large, long range vehicles and vehicles that operate in hot and cold environments. These vehicles make up for the lack of range in high energy density and rapid refueling and low temperatures. According to the report, the figure of fuel cell electric vehicles has doubled since 2018. Whereas the figure of hydrogen refueling stations has increased by 20 percent. It is being said that in the next 9 years, the figure of hydrogen powered fuel cell electric vehicles can reach 10 million, while refueling stations can become 10,000 all over the world.
