The auto major had reported sales of 76,976 units in March 2020. Last year, both the dispatch and production were affected by the COVID epidemic.
MSI said in a statement, “In March 2020, domestic sales declined by nearly 48 percent due to disruptions related to COVID. However, if seen, domestic sales in March 2021 have only reached the level of March 2019. ”
Which model of Maruti sold so much
Sales of mini cars including Alto and S-Preso stood at 24,653 units last month. The company sold 15,988 units of these cars in March 2020. Similarly, compact vehicles including Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire models were sold 82,201 units last month, while the company reported sending 40,519 such cars in March last year. Sales of the mid-size sedan Ciaz stood at 1,628 units last month. In March 2020, the sale of this model was at 1,863 units. Utility vehicle sales, including the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, stood at 26,174 units last month. MSI said that the company had sold 11,904 units in the same month a year ago.
In addition, the company’s exports in March stood at 11,597 units. It was 4,712 units in the same month last year. For the FY 2020-21, the auto major recorded total sales of 14,57,861 units, 6.7 percent less than the 15,63,297 units in 2019-20.

MSI stated that domestic sales were down by 18 per cent in the 2019-20 financial year due to well-known reasons and dispatches have been affected due to COVID in the 2020-21 fiscal year. The company said that its total domestic sales declined to 13,23,396 units in 2020-21, from 14,36,124 in 2019-20. In 2018-19, the company sold 17,53,700 units in the domestic market as compared to 16,53,500 units in 2017-18. At the same time, in 2016-17, the auto major dispatched 14,44,541 units in the domestic market, compared to 13,05,351 units in 2015-16.
